One of the more interesting options in the UES, Tha Phraya features one of the better Thai options in Manhattan, with a fairly traditional Thai dishes that don't seem to focus on any specific region. We tried the pomelo salad, a personal favorite of mine, which was nice and refreshing. A good balance of salty and sweet. The crab fried rice was a natural crowd pleaser with a runny omelette and lumps of crab served on top. The boat noodles, sort of a Thai version of pho, ended up being the best thing we ordered. Light yet deep with beefy flavor, I highly recommend ordering. Service was great. Our server was a trainee and did a fantastic job. The restaurant is well-decorated and not too loud, a great spot to take a date.
Food and cocktails, and service absolutely amazing. I was really impressed with the dishes we ordered! Will look for pics-- Insanely loud in here, but I'll pass this...
Came here during lunch. They were very accommodating and warned me if their spice rating and it's not westernized spice level. It was fresh and very flavorful. I can't wait to come back here with more people to try more dishes. Also, Chris, my waiter was very funny and charming! Ask for him!
We walked into Tha Phraya on a Sunday before noon without a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with Christmas décor, creating a cheerful holiday vibe that added to the dining experience. To start, we ordered Tom Kha Pla Tod, a creamy coconut soup featuring fried branzino. The flavors were balanced, with a hint of tanginess and rich, aromatic spices. For entrées, we had Kaeng Phed Ped Yang, a red curry dish featuring tender slices of roasted duck breast, cherry tomatoes, and Thai basil. The depth of flavor in the curry made it a standout dish. We also had Ka-prow Stewed Beef which was served over rice with a perfectly fried egg; the stir fried braised beef was tender and packed with bold basil and chili flavors. The accompanying sauce added just the right amount of heat. The food was delicious, and the service was attentive throughout our meal. Overall, Tha Phraya delivered a great dining experience, from the festive ambiance to the flavorful dishes. We'd definitely return to explore more of the menu.
Tha Phraya is a newer addition to the Thai restaurant scene on the UES. I enjoyed everything I ordered and I'd go back and try other dishes. The Thai iced tea was very good- it was a little less sweet which I appreciated. Beef pad see iew ($22)- I often order pad see iew when I go to Thai restaurants. This rendition was a very good one! The portion was a good size and the flavors were good. I would order it again. Pad Thai boran ($24)- The pad Thai was also delicious. I appreciated that it was served with jumbo shrimp. They were very fresh. I wish I had room to try the ice cream hot pot mor fai! I rated Tha Phraya as 4 out of 5 stars. I feel like it was hyped up and it was very good for sure, but I wouldn't say it was the best I've had. Of course this could have been due to what I ordered. I look forward to returning again soon!
This is now my favorite Thai spot in NYC, a close second would be Thai Diner. My favorite dish was the duck breast curry with lychee!!! The curry was so flavorful and had a little bit of a kick, but not so much that I was dying. Also really loved the crab fried rice lava -- it comes with this amazing green sauce that I want to pour all over everything. We also got the crab curry "Kang Pu" which came with vermicelli for you to pour the curry over them. Loved every dish. The spring rolls were highly recommended by our server Chris and he was SO right!!! So flavorful. I've never had spring rolls like these before. Curry puffs were good as usual (comes in 3). For dessert, we got mango sticky rice and it really hit the spot. Warm fragrant sticky rice with cold juicy mangoes. Our server Chris was on point with all his recommendations. Will definitely come back!! P.s. they also have specialty cocktails!! I loved my Pandan one.
Thai food here was abs delicious! It felt dim and intimate at the same time. First time trying Thai on the upper east side and they didn't disappoint! I'm usually not the biggest rice person but the fried rice here was delicious! I would prefer the rice over the noodles here but they were both great Crab fried rice 5/5: the egg was perfectly cooked and they give a generous of crab where every bite you can get a piece of crab; fried rice was perf made with bit by bit of rice not sticking together Seafood pad kee mao 4.5/5: may not look spicy but it def has a kick! And seafood portion was generous, noodle was the big flat ones and it was bouncy! Nuer Toon Mor Fai 3.5/5: the beef was super tender and juicy but the soup base was too strong and sweet with all the spices for me
Best meal I've had in NYC in a while. My partner and I are dying to go back, whenever we're back in Upper East. The crab fried rice was INCREDIBLE. So much flavor and textural interest. I'm a sucker for duck, so I was ecstatic to see it on the menu and it did not disappoint. We also loved the NA coconut/pineapple purple drink. It's also such a beautifully designed restaurant. Great inspo for a super vibey interior design. Will absolutely be returning!
This is probably my new favorite thai restaurant in NYC. I was so stuffed after eating at other restaurants that I was thinking if skipping this, however last minute I thought I just try it. I ordered pad kee mow, aka drunken noodles, on the lunch menu, wow, it was so flavourful, light that I could still finish it all by myself when I was stuffed like a turkey. I would definitely make another stop her to try other dishes. Service was great and the order was ready in a timely manor. The restaurant is Michelin recommended and looks elegant and classy. Look forward to my next visit.
